Chief Investment Officer

NEL Fund Managers Limited is looking to appoint an ambitious and highly motivated individual to the role of Chief Investment Officer (CIO).  We have recently launched two new Funds with a mandate to invest £30m into North East based businesses and our clear aim is to scale and develop NEL further by working collaboratively with investors to grow our funds under management. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing NEL’s investment and relationship management teams whilst ensuring origination and professional advisor networks are supported and cultivated. The CIO will work closely with the CEO to determine and execute NEL’s growth strategy.

The role is ideally suited to individuals with the following characteristics

• Strong track record of investing in the SME marketplace, perhaps within larger organisations that now seek a fresh challenge to work in a dynamic, growth business with short lines of communication, rapid decision making and where their contribution can make a real difference
• Experience of senior positions in fund management, corporate finance or banking.
• Externally facing and thrives on staying in touch with latest market developments across the SME and direct lending landscape.
• Comfortable with complexity, curious, adept at problem solving with high critical thinking skills.
• High attention to detail with the ability to also think strategically.
• Ability to distil large amounts of information quickly into key issues and summarise succinctly to senior audiences.
• Highly motivated with a positive mindset and tenacity to work through challenges.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to inspire and empower teams.
• A desire to work collaboratively and to engage energetically with professional networks
• Gravitas to create and develop senior relationships with investors and stakeholders

 

This role is hybrid working dependent upon operational needs. Our Head Office is in Team Valley, Gateshead with our Teesside office located in Stockton.

The package available includes salary appropriate to qualifications and experience, personal pension contribution, opportunity to share in Fund Carried Interest arrangements, private health care. NEL is owned by an Employee Ownership Trust and all of our team are beneficiaries of the Trust.
